With one of the most anticipated boxing fights in the history of the sport taking place September 14, CFA CEO Jorge de la Noval voiced his opinion and shared his prediction on the Canelo Alvarez versus Floyd Mayweather bout.

De la Noval said he is not impressed with the fight, which has been titled “The One”.

“I don’t think this fight will have as much as an impact as everyone is thinking of,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s Mayweather or the opponent. Alvarez has a big following in Mexico. I don’t feel the hype. Personally, I don’t hear too many people talking about it.”

Although sports pundits believe the fight can break pay-per-view records, de la Noval said mixed martial arts has taken the limelight from boxing over the years. Plus, he said the $75 price tag to watch the fight in high definition could play a major role.

“Boxing is not as popular as it used to,” he said. “MMA has taken a lot of the popularity out of boxing.”

But there is hope; he thinks that a Mayweather loss could benefit boxing.

“If Mayweather loses, it will be a lot better for boxing because there will be a rematch,” he said.

However, as a fan, he is a Mayweather supporter and predicts he will stay undefeated.

“Mayweather will win by decision,” he said. “I don’t have anything against Canelo. He has a lot of power. He doesn’t move as quickly as Mayweather. I’ve always been a fan of Floyd.”
