CFA flyweight champion Josh Sampo (9-2) hasn’t taken a day off after winning his title at CFA 09 Night of Champions against Alexis Vila in the fifth round via submission.

“Since the fight I got right back to school,” he said. “I’m in my final semester of Grad school and went right back into student teaching that Monday after the fight.”

Sampo recalls the great feeling when he won.

“As the belt was wrapped around my waist, it was a feeling I can’t explain,” he said. “It all seemed a bit surreal like a dream. I had visualized the win before and what that would look and feel like, but it was nothing compared to it actually happening.”

He said all the hard work paid of when he won on the Night of Champions event.

“It was a feeling of all the hard work, sacrifices, and determination had paid of,” he said. “The early morning and late night workouts, the cutting weight, the missed parties and hanging out with friends. It made all that worth it, after I got my hand raised.”

He said a dream fight for him would be to fight the UFC’s Ian McCall.

Sampo expects to put the title on the line sometime this summer.
