CFA 12 PRESS CONFERENCE SETS TONE FOR SATURDAY
The tone has been set for Saturday’s Championship Fighting Alliance’s CFA 12 at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables as the fighters addressed the fans and media at the press conference at the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort today.
Tickets are on sale at www.cfafights.com. CFA 12 will air live nationally on AXS TV starting at 9 p.m. ET.
Jorge de la Noval said CFA 12’s fight card is one of the best of the year.
“I am excited and thrilled for this fight card,” he said. “From top to bottom, this event will deliver non-stop action.”
At the press conference, flyweight champion Josh Sampo and Sam Thao made their statements before going one-on-one on Saturday’s main event.
The challenger said there is more than a belt on the line.
“We are fighting to be number one,” he said. “I guarantee it’s going to be a war.”
The champion said he is looking forward to defend his title for the first time inside the CFA cage.
“We will put on a show,” he said.
Meanwhile, in the co-main event, Luis Palomino and Efrain Escudero displayed respect for each other at the press conference.
“Efrain is a great friend.” Palomino said. “I respect him. I appreciate that he took this fight against me. It’s been hard to find an opponent.”
Palomino noted that both trained together at one point.
Escudero echoed Palomino’s statement.
“I respect him on a personal level,” he said. “On Saturday, it’s going to be me and him. We are no strangers to each other. We are going to give a show. We will give you what you want to see.”
Tension built between the only women fighting on the CFA 12 card as Ashlee Evans Smith and Fallon Fox traded some serious words before going head-to-head Saturday in the women’s tournament finals for the female featherweight title and $20,000.
“I know there’s controversy,” Smith said. “There is a lot of media on Fox.
She later added, “There are naysayers, but I don’t care if the world is against me because I know I am going to win,” she said. “I am excited to walk away with the belt.”
On the other hand, Fox said she is on a mission.
“I am better on my feet,” Fox said. “I am better than you all around. I came into break pieces and snap arms. You aren’t the one to take me out.”
Also on the main card, Valdir Araujo will meet Romario Manoel da Silva for the vacant CFA welterweight title.
Da Silva said, “I am grateful,” he said. “He is a great guy. I respect him a lot. I am ready for war.”
Araujo was brief and stated that he was “ready”.
One more title will be on the line, as the vacant lightweight title will have an owner as Yosdenis Cedeno and Torrance Taylor will battle inside the cage for gold.
The visiting Taylor said that fans should expect an exciting fight.
“It’s going to be fireworks,” he said. “I hope its’ not the fight of the night cause I want to end it quickly. I am going to take home the belt to Cleveland.”
Cedeno was honored for the opportunity and simply said “may the best win”.
