ASHLEE EVANS SMITH: “I AM ON ANOTHER LEVEL. “SHE (FALLON FOX) CAN’T EVEN BE ON THE SAME LEVEL AS ME, RIGHT NOW!”
Although Ashlee Evans-Smith (1-0) didn’t compete in the second round of the CFA all women’s tournament for the featherweight title and $20,000, the Californian says she is at the top of the mountain when it comes to being a fighter.
Evans-Smith will meet Fallon Fox (3-0) at CFA 12 at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fl. live on AXS TV Saturday, October 12, at the tournament’s finals.
Tickets are on sale via www.ticketmaster.com.
“Both of us are going to pick each others game apart and both of us are going to train appropriately,” she said in an interview. “But when it comes down to it, I talked to a bunch of people including my coaches and I am not going to say her stand up game is better than mine or mine is better than hers. I am just going to say that when we step in the cage everyone will see who is the better striker, the better grappler. I am completely confident that I am better in every aspect.”
Evans-Smith, who has trained with the UFC’s Ian McCall and Invicta FC champion Carla Esparza, said Fox couldn’t compare to how she is currently feeling as an athlete.
“Its on another level,” she said. “She can’t even be on my level, right now. “
Smith defeated Tori Adams in the first round using her stand up game as her strength. Fox defeated Ericka Newsome in the first round.
In her last fight, Fox defeated standup fighter Allanna Jones by way of submission in the second round of the tournament, while Evans-Smith watched from the seats. In a prior interview, Evans-Smith said she wasn’t impressed with Fox’s grappling skills.
“I am sure she trained hard for that fight but I’ve been doing that for all my fights,” Evans-Smith said. “I would never go into a fight unprepared and she clearly went unprepared. I don’t know if she wasn’t taking it seriously or she underestimated her opponent, but she wasn’t ready. I am ready for five rounds. I’ll have the upper hand when it comes to cardio.”
