Many mixed martial artists decide to take the sport as a profession after being inspired by a specific fight, fighter or movie.

But for CFA fighter Mike King, it was different.

King, who is scheduled to fight Oscar Delgado at CFA 11 May 24 at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, was actually tricked into the sport.

“I had a college football coach that knew I had a good wrestling background,” he said. “He wanted me to do boxing to keep my cardio up in the off season for the upcoming football season.”

King played the position of outside linebacker.

However, one night his coach invited him to a fight. But when he went to the show, it was more than just a night of enjoyment.

“He threw me to the dogs,” he said. “He asked me if I wanted to go see fights I said ‘yes’ when I should up I was on the (fight) card.”

He went 7-1 in his amateur career and is now undefeated at 5-0.

The all-American football player, said at one point in his life becoming a professional football player what was he lived for, but life took a turn for something he now loves dearly.

“Things happen for a reason,” said the American Top Team standout. “I believe this is my destiny and I don’t regret anything.”
